A Brief History of Dragon Ball Z

Dragon Ball Z is well known as one of the most popular manga stories to date, with millions of copies being sold since its release. There are two other sister series aside from DragonBall Z, those are DragonBall, and Dragon Ball GT. The series have also been translated to English for production for the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. The main character, "Goku", has been called the 'strongest manga character of all time'. And the story is well known all over Japan and the world, the main character's journey also won the admiration of many young boys.

The series what written and directed by Akira Toriyama, when conceiving the production of Dragon Ball, he wanted to step away from the western influences that predominated his previous series. Instead, he based it loosely on the Chinese novel known as 'Journey to the West'.

The Show initially started in 1984 and continued production until 1995 when Toriyama felt he needed to take a break. The show was the second animation series made to quickly follow the popular predecessor, Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball Z was also a massive success and ran for 291 episodes. That was later followed by Dragon Ball GT, which was not from original manga unlike the two earlier ones.

The plot follows a boy with a monkey tail named Goku as he starts out on a quest to find the magic seven Dragon balls. During the journey, Goku goes though a large amount of intense martial arts trainings and other programs so he can be able to fight at the prestigious World Martial Arts Tournament. He also faces many villains such as the Red Ribbon Army, the Emperor Pilaf, and Piccolo the Demon.

When he grows into a young adult, Goku comes into contact with his older brother for the first time who informs him that he has descended from an alien race called the Saiyans, and that he had been sent to earth to conquer the planet for them. Goku refuses to help his brother conquer earth, and afterwards must fight many hostile rivals from space.

Afterwards, the Red Army rises up again to try to avenge themselves on Goku, although they are eventually defeated. After seven more years, Goku is involved another battle for the universe, fighting a hostile alien known as Majin Buu. At the conclusion of the series, Goku trains Buu's reincarnation to become the next defender of Earth.

Dragon Ball Z and Godzilla Action Figures

We all know that both Dragon Ball Z action figures as well as Godzilla action figures originated in Japan. Nowadays, Dragon Ball Z is becoming well-known. Compared to Godzilla, I will choose Dragon Ball Z because it got lots of unique characters with unique powers. At first Dragon Ball started as a cartoon television program and it got famous. That is why they created an figure out of the characters, and then it becomes a hit to those children.

Every child loves these figures and they animate their favorite DB Z hero. They even ask for their parents to buy another action figure that is a rival to their hero, so that they can complete in their imagination about the battle on good versus evil. And as I have noticed, not only children are the ones who own these amazing toys. There are also adults that love to collect DB Z toys. These action figures are fun to watch, and these toys can serve as a decoration. Its either you can put this at the play room, the bedroom, or the car dashboard.

It is easy to look for Dragon Ball Z characters. You can see them at toy stores or hobby shops. If you ask the sellers about the figure, then they will surely point you to a place where there are plenty of products. There is no toy store that does not recognize a DB Z character. In this era we can see that Dragon Ball Z is definitely a big hit among toys stores. You can also find DBZ action figures at hobby shops. Hobby shops sometimes provide a very rare collector's item. These collector's items are considered to have a good detail on the characters of DB Z.

The DBZ character that comes from the hobby shop looks better compared to a character that you can find anywhere. Dragon Ball Z fame can also be found at book stores wherein you can buy comics and also character profiles. As we all know, different figures have different powers and kids love to read those kind of information. Identifying the different powers of DBZ characters will help them in playing with their toys. We can also find DBZ characters at stores that sell school supplies. The most common DBZ appearance that we can find is on the notebooks, pens and calendars.

Now we have observed how DB Z is way ahead compared to Godzilla. We all know that Godzilla is a legend but I think Son Goku can finish Godzilla with one big powerful energy beam. Godzilla is known for only one thing, which is destruction. While Son Goku is a hero and saving lives is always in his mind. Therefore, a lot will choose a Dragon Ball Z action figures over the old Godzilla action figures.

A History of Dragon Ball Z Games

The very first Dragon Ball universe game was on a system that the average game has never heard of, the Super Cassette Vision, a console released in 1981 by an equally unknown company, Epoch. Needless to say, Dragonball Z games had a rocky start, considering the first Dragonball Z game released in North America was changed so drastically that the Dragonball Z name wasn't anywhere present, and all of the character names and designs were changed to appeal to the Western market.

Dragonball Z games didn't get another North American release until Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout, in 1997, a considerable amount of time after the entire series was shown in Japan, and the Dragon Ball Z show hadn't even been showing a year when this game was released, so there was no proper audience for the release.

It wasn't until after this that Dragon Ball Z blew up in the United States, and the first of the Budokai series was released in 2002 on the PS2, PSP and Gamecube; this is a considerable gap in console generations, so many of the classic Dragonball Z games were completely overlooked by American gamers; most aren't even widely available. There is an exception of course, as the world of game emulation really exposed the Western audience to the older Dragonball Z games for free. I won't go any further into console and game emulation, as it is somewhat illegal.

Though, on the legal side, there are free online Dragon Ball Z games in the form of your basic, primitive flash games here and there. These aren't the cream of the crop when it comes to Dragonball Z games, but they are certainly better than nothing. One extremely popular form of free online Dragon Ball Z games are through the BYOND (Build Your Own Net Dreams) program, which allows fans to make and play their own simplistic video games. Some are even quite complex and engaging, but they are few and far. Either way, they are certainly good ways to pass the time.

The franchise of Dragonball Z games in North America most probably peaked with the Budokai series, and not many other titles have garnered the amount of attention from the fans like the Budokai series. It seems the franchise of the games might have the same fate as the franchise of the series and just end up being an underground phenomena or even written off as a fad.
